Momentum builds around the world for Power Africa initiative
Jeudi 5 Juin 2014

OPIC President and CEO Elizabeth L. Littlefield will join a large group of senior U.S. and African officials this week at the U.S.-Africa Energy Ministerial (AEM) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to talk about the progress that has been made to date on President Obama’s Power Africa initiative and the path forward.

The event is one of a series of gatherings being hosted around the world in the coming months in support of President Obama’s Power Africa initiative aimed at addressing the severe energy poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa, where about 600 million people – roughly the combined population of western Europe, Japan and South Korea – have no electricity. Power Africa aims to help Africa develop its extensive energy resources, with the help of private investors and is generating growing attention from government officials and businesses. Energy ministers from 30 African countries are expected to attend the meeting in Ethiopia this week.
